2020 Toyota Supra; New Feature, Release Date & Specs

2020 Toyota Supra Price in Australia

What’s New About the 2020 Toyota Supra? It’s been years after Toyota released a rear-wheel-drive sports car. The last time it does, Toyota returned to the rear-wheel-drive sports car market back in 2012 with the 86. There is good news, fortunately. The good news is this: Toyota Supra is back.

For some time, many people speculate that Toyota has been developing a new sports car. It turns out this is true. Toyota confirmed this in the 2017 Geneva Motor Show. Let’s see what the 2020 Toyota Supra will have.

A Turbo 86, Sort Of

It seems that Toyota has taken some lessons from the 86 and wants to apply them to the upcoming Supra. Toyota intends to make the upcoming Supra offer even better driving experience. Aiming at this goal, the upcoming Supra is likely to be designed with a center of gravity that is lower than the 86 and a 50:50 weight distribution. Toyota also planned the 2020 Supra to have a rear axle that is more mobile as well.

2020 Toyota Supra Will Have Straight-Six Power

Since Toyota has a partnership with BMW in making the upcoming Supra, they have access to BMW’s smooth straight-six power. While straight-six power is going to be used, the details of Supra specs have not been released yet.

As for the engine, according to Japan’s Best Car, the upcoming 2020 Toyota Supra turbo will have a 3.0-liter, turbo inline-six engine with an output of 335 horsepower and 332 pound-ft of torque (369 pound-ft on overboost). There is also a rumor that the upcoming Supra will use four-cylinder power as well but Toyota Supra’s chief engineer, Tetsuya Tada, declined to confirm the rumor. He didn’t deny the possibility of a future Toyota Supra variant, either.

It Will Have a Rear-Wheel-Drive System

There are rumors that say the 2020 Toyota Supra will have an all-wheel-drive system. At Geneva Motor Show, however, Tada confirmed that the upcoming Supra will have a rear-wheel-drive system, just like its predecessors.

No Manual Option Available

According to an internal BMW document, the manual option will not be available for the Toyota Supra although it will be available for the Z4. At Geneva Motor Show, while Tada didn’t entirely dismiss its possibility, Tada did make it seem unlikely.

2020 Toyota Supra Release Date

For those who are waiting, the 2020 Supra will be produced this year. This means that the upcoming Supra will enter the market soon. What is unfortunate is, however, that there is no announcement from Toyota about the 2020 Toyota Supra price yet.

And speaking of production, the company that is responsible to assemble Supra will be Magna Steyr, an Austrian contract manufacturer that is best known as the one which builds Mercedes-Benz’s amazing G-Wagen.

It Was Tested at the Nurburgring

There is a lot of footage showing the testing of the upcoming Supra at the Nurburgring. Nurburgring is a famous testing ground for high-performance vehicles, which apparently what Toyota has been aiming for the 2020 Supra.

This is what we know so far about the upcoming Toyota Supra. While the sports car is not yet released, we do expect the upcoming Supra to be better than its predecessor
