Not only that, but some reports suggest it will come with some significant updates. Yes, including what is under the hood. Now, let’s see what the upcoming Toyota 86 will come with.
2020 Toyota 86 Redesign
Let’s start with the platform first. The 2020 Toyota 86 is likely to use Toyota’s well-known platform: the TNGA. Many expect Toyota to use lightweight materials like aluminum and carbon fiber for it. After all, this is a trend among the next generation of sports cars. If this turns out to be true, then the new Toyota 86 will save some weight. A lightweight chassis will certainly help to improve the sports car’s acceleration and performance.
In terms of exterior design, the upcoming Toyota 86 is going to come with a more aggressive, sportier and aerodynamic look. A wider grille will be used on its long, redesigned hood. There will be a redesign of the bumper and the splitter as well. Also worth mentioning, LED technology will be incorporated into its lighting system. The suspension system will be improved. As a result, the new sports car will have better handling.
We expect to see 2020 Toyota 86 redesign for the interior. The inside will probably have a sporty and modern look with not only high-quality materials but also excellent features. Since it is a sports car, there is a good chance that Toyota will use lightweight materials for the interior.
The seats should be more comfortable, bigger and wrapped in premium leather. There will be a sports steering wheel wrapped in leather, an information display, a larger infotainment display with the latest infotainment system as well as other connectivity options and modern features. We also expect the upcoming Toyota 86 to come with driver-assist features and safety systems as well.
Engine Specs & MPG
According to reports, the upcoming Toyota 86 is likely to continue to use the same engine as the current model used. That is a 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine which is capable of producing up to 250 horsepower. Interestingly, rather than using the 2.0-liter engine, other reports suggest that the new Toyota 86 will use a brand-new engine and/or a hybrid system. So far, there is no confirmation about this yet. We expect more details soon from Toyota.
As for the transmission and drive system, we expect the 2020 Toyota 86 to be offered in a 6-speed automatic transmission with a rear-wheel-drive system.

No official announcement from Toyota yet concerning the exact New Toyota 86 release date and price. That being the case, it should enter the market late this year. For the price, we expect it will have a starting price of around $27,000 for the base model.
