Upcoming Ford Bronco Facts That We Know So Far – Over two decades ago, in 1996, the Ford Bronco lineup was discontinued. The popular 4×4 is no longer produced. That is, until now. In 2017 Ford announced that the lineup will return. Want to know more about the lineup’s comeback? Read on. Below we give you 5 facts that we know so far about the upcoming 2020 Ford Bronco.
#1. Ford Bronco Will Use the New Ford Ranger as the Base
In 2017, Ford top officials confirmed that the Ranger and the Bronco will share a platform. This means that the 2020 Bronco will use the short, wheelbase version of T6 architecture just like the Ranger.
Thanks to the T6 architecture, the new Bronco will have a compact size, will be available not just in the U.S. or the Asia Pacific only but also worldwide, and able to use various technologies that are used by other cars with the same platform.
#2: It Will Share the Same Engine, Too
Not only the new Bronco will share the same engine as the new Ranger, but it will also share the same engine as well. The U.S. Ranger comes equipped with a 2.3-liter, inline-four EcoBoost engine. This engine is able to generate as high as 270 hp with up to 310 lb-ft of torque. The Bronco is likely to come with this engine as well.
#3: Hybrid Version Will Be Available
It is 2019 already. Now, more and more manufacturers are racing to produce vehicles that are environment-friendly. One of the ways they do so is to create vehicles with hybrid engines. Ford, of course, is among these manufacturers.
With the hybrid engine being the trend, Ford is planning to ‘electrifies’ all of its vehicles. Of course, this includes the upcoming 2020 Ford Bronco. We don’t know yet what kind of hybrid drivetrain the 2020 Bronco will use. That said, the Ford Explorer, which paired a 3.3-liter V6 engine with an electric motor, gives us a clue of how the 2020 Bronco will look like.
#4: Developed in Australia, Made In the USA
There are reports that suggested the upcoming Bronco is being developed in Australia. Although whether or not these reports are true has yet to be proven, it is quite possible considering the new Ranger is developed in Australia. And as we mentioned earlier, the 2020 Bronco will be based on the new Ranger.
Unlike the development, the production of the Bronco is quite clear. Ford has already announced that the new Bronco is going to be a product made in the USA. The upcoming 4×4 will be assembled in the same plant as the new Ranger, in the Michigan Assembly Plant.
#5: Exact Release Date Is Not Yet Known
Although the return of the Bronco lineup is certainly good news, especially for Bronco fans, Ford has not announced when the 2020 Ford Bronco will hit the market. As far as we know, Ford only announced that the upcoming Bronco will be a 2020 model. That means it will be released either in the second half of 2019 or early 2020. For now, we can only wait.
